Selling car on Craigslist? (Previous buyers and sellers only)?

Pasty Cobbett: I've sold a couple on craigslist. Seems to be a lot of people looking for cheap cars, but you will also find some of the higher dollar cars on there too. You mentioned Autotrader not working that well, I would definitely give craigs list a shot since it's not going to cost you anything. I did a couple of comparisons a while back when my car was listed on both craigs list and autotrader. Craigs list actually outperformed Autotrader for my cars.

Mercedez Trabue: I just (exactly a week ago) sold my car on Craigslist. It was a 1997 Saturn... I was only asking $2000 and ended up going down to $1900. I posted my add on Thursday night, the buyer came Friday night with a deposit, the car was sold at 9 am on Saturday. That was it. I had the cash in my pocket and plates in my hand.Your situation is quite different since your price is much much higher and your car is also 10 years younger than mine. I would definitely post your car on Craiglist, but I would ! jack up the price by say $500, which will have to "bargain down" in the end anyway, so in the end you might come down to your real asking price, which is $18,495. I've never bought anything from Craigslist, but I have sold a lot of stuff, and the buyers I have always gotten were hard working people trying to get the most for their buck. Expect them to bargain (the lady who bought the car from me, told me that I'm raising the price too high and that no one would ever buy it from me unless I lower the price to $1500 - I actually had 14 people call me about the car). Expect your buyers to be difficult (most of the ones I had were. Expect them to ask you stupid questions, bring their own mechanics, but as long as you stay in control of the situation, it should be ok. It depends on where you live, I guess, and where that person is coming from. My car wasn't that much so the public wasn't too fancy, but your car is more, so you might get more decent people.Overall, I wouldn't tra! de anything for Craigs. You will get the best price for your c! ar from a private buyer, you might have at it, but it will all be worth it. One advice I have for you is, respond to people right away, leave your cell phone # in the listing and screen the calls and call people back. I think about 20 people called me withing 6 hours of listing, 14 actually left a message, I called back 10, 1 came the next day, everyone else (other 5 whom I was able to reach) wanted to come on the following day and the one who came first, put down a deposit and got the car. In the end, you only need 1 person's commitment and you've sold your car. Usually Craigslist happens fast for me, otherwise people lose interest, start looking at other stuff and then start questioning you and wasting your time. Some guy asked me to drive my car to him because he didn't have one, and at the end of his email requested the VIN of the car! Another lady asked how many cracks the back seat had and what color the buttons were in seatbelts. You'll get some weird people, but in ! the end - it's all worth it. :)...Show more

Rheba Cockman: It free, It's easy. What have you to loose. I have gotten responses on almost everything I have posted. Go for it. Be careful of scams.

Marcel Then: craigslist is actually better than anything else including your local newspaper, plus it's free!I've gotten tons of feedback from craigs, and fast! The only drawback is craigslist is known for "lowballers" and everyone expects you to really go down on the price. Your car is a 2007, so it's going to be hard to sell, It is really hard to find someone to come and give you $18k. Newer cars are just hard to sell unless you discount the price further, it doesn't matter if you have it on autotrader or craigs....Show more
