Hope Lundmark: better ask for your IT administrator or Network people from your work if you need to connect to their DNS server before you can surf the internet. usually corporate computers has a network settings and they have they're own domain and Dns server and that might be causing you the DNS error But if you dnt need to connect to your company server better check the LOcal Area Connection of your computer and set it to Automatically get IP Address and Obtain DNS server Automatically for you to get a valid IP...Show more
Rhett Kaines: (For windows XP)Go to Control Panel, Network Connections, right click on the network connection and click properties, double click on TCP/IP, change the the ip settings to "Obtain automatically" and the dns settings to "Obtain automatically".Hopefully you should have a server that will tell the computer the network settings when it boots up.Ot! her than that I'd need specific information about your network before I could tell you the manual setup information you need, in which case your IT department would tell you how to do it seeing as you'd need to contact them for specific settings.(If you're running Vista then drop me an e-mail and I will mail you back with thwe instructions for doing the auto-setup in Vista)...Show more

Adan Alipio: DNS issuecheck if your computer has an IP address:start-->>RUN>type->CMD=you will get in command prompt:type:ipconfig/all IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . :xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . :xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . :xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxPrimary WINS Server . . . . . . . :xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (if any)and so on...if there is an IP address like: 169.254.255.254 it means it could not reach the DHCP server from where he should obtain the IP address.Check in Start->My network places->View network connections then go in properties and click twice on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) . Check if the box is checked to obtain an IP address automatically, for DNS too.then press ok. If it doesn't help, problem then could be in the router or switch or your local network. It doesn't meen the problem is always on user PC. I am not sure on which network you are? If it's home network or company n! etwork? If it's the company network problem could be more complex. Problem could be also in cables, network card, subnet mask or bad configured internal firewall which prevents some range of IP addresses for routing around the network.
