Oren Eskelsen: There are a lot of possibilitys, but some spots to look at first are to take your tire off, and make sure that you have not got a rock stuck in the brake rotor or backing plate. Another thing to check is that you have proper movement of the brake caliper, and that the brake pads are in good condition. It should have at least 1/8 inch of good brake friction material. If those are good, you need to make sure that the suspension and steering systems are ok, everything from the strut towers to the bearings to the steering joints. Good luck, but make sure to check everything out before any kind of trip. You could loose a tire or blow a joint and total your car....Show more

Shandi Wedge: Okay...my husband wanted me to revise this. It is not a grinding...it's more! of a creeking noise. Something you may here if you were rocking in an old rocking chair. Does nothappen when I hit the break...only when my car goes thru bump...dips..or any unevenness in the road. Like I said before, I pulled over and saw nothing lodged. What has happened to my car? Please help..thanks
Voncile Slaubaugh: well first u should get someone to look under your hood to see if u have something stuck in ur engine or transmission if nuthing then look under your car and see if something is stuck under there if not then go to a local car repair
Gus Leiby: pls have your center bearing checked. it may be worn by now. that's the only griding noise i can think of.
Arden Strachn: So, it's not a constant thing, or happens only when you hit the brake? Or, only when the car bounces? Then it is probably shock absorber / strut related. Can you bounce on the car when parked, and get it to make the noise? Could also be power steering, or rack-and-pinion steerin! g cylinder. You need to have a buddy help, one to look and lis! ten with the hood raised, and try different movements of the car to simulate the conditions it makes the noises, then follow it to the source. Grinding sound is usually brakes, though. You should have someone more knowledgeable take a look at it.- The Gremlin Guy -...Show more
