Lynn Melbourne: Small cars tend to be cheaper as they have less power and fewer complex features and systems relative to larger or more expensive vehicles. Luxury carmakers love to pack lots of high tech stuff into them to boast about them. This equipment is just more expensive than your basic Corolla CD player and 4 cheap speakers. And yes, some luxury automakers just charge more for the same types of parts because they know people who spend as much money on their cars as people do, these people ca afford it.. As for just the general maintenance, often luxury cars have more advanced engines and require synthetic oil, premium top tier gasoline, and more frequent service to keep the high the transmissions and engines in top condition. However, as the cheapest vehicles are beginning to utilize similar tech, the repair/maintenance price gap is definitely closing. Even some parts on a 2018 Camry are significantly more expensive than they would be on a 98 Camry, and sometimes! approaches the luxury car prices....Show more
Jimmie Doerfler: More.
Carlee Tangaro: I think Volvos are over-priced and not worth the money. If you buy a new vehicle, you get a warranty so costs will be minimal. You don't have to go to a dealer for service or repairs. That is where it get expensive.
May Stands: I had a 1985 Volvo 765T for 17 years and figured the parts were about twice what I would pay for "ordinary" cars. That didn't translate into more reliability, though. Volvos in general are not very reliable. I have no experience with other high end marques (Toyota is as high as I go now) but I do not hear good things about the reliability of Audi, BMW, Mercedes....
Marcellus Exler: If you are worried about the cost, maybe you cannot afford the Volvo. Stick to the fine car you are driving now. If you want to "upgrade", get a Camry.
Pearlie Medora: Other that the fact that parts and labor costs are higher at luxury car dealerships (! they have to pay for the nice waiting room with free snacks an! d gourmet coffee), high maintenance costs are simply a part of the upscale luxury persona, as is the artificially higher purchase cost. Luxury cars don't cost more because they are that much better cars. Luxury car buyers actually prefer to pay the higher prices to enhance the perception of exclusivity. Take a look at the Genesis G80 if you want luxury at a non-luxury price....Show more
Virgil Loatman: Survey all the mechanics and get their different shop rates, then look up every part for a price.
Loise Mausser: I had a Mercedes and it had very expensive upkeep. I also had to drive an hour away to go to the closest dealership.
Monroe Rainey: The more cars of a particular model, the cheaper it is to make parts for it. The more likely an after market company will make parts for it. So if you buy a luxury car and they make a million of them then the parts will not be overly expensive. But if they only made a few hundred thousand, expect the parts to co! st more. You can keep costs down by using a repair shop that is not the dealers as they more likely will use after market filters, etc to keep the costs down.
Sunshine Holets: All those bells & whistles need maintenance & repair ..........................
Bud Espenshade: About double the price of a regular car. And the German ones are up there above the price of Lincoln or Catalac.
