The office That I used to work at deducted money form my final paycheck. is this legal?

answers 0:This dental office that I used to work at deducted 600.00 from my final paycheck for treatment that my wife received before I left. Is this legal? And if not what do you suggest I do?answers 1:If you didn't authorize the payment to come out of your check, they can't effectively garnish your wages without due process. If you refused to pay for the treatment, they could take you to small claims court or get hire debt collector to recover the fee. Definitely go to the Labor Board in your state, possibly the Attorney General's Office as well, since it involves business.answers 2:If you owe money then yes they can.answers 3:By federal and state law, it's illegal. The only deductions allowed from your paycheck are those required by law (tax, ! ss, garnishment, etc) and voluntary deductions agreed to by the employee (insurance, 401K, agreed upon deductions between all parties, etc).Your paycheck cannot be held hostage, nor deductions made for any other reason. Even debts owed to your (former) employer are separate and are excluded from payroll administration. Since it is your debt, you might consider it as payment toward the debt as you'd still have to pay if afterward. But if the office was already inclined to accept a payment schedule, then you can continue the schedule and file a complaint with the state Labor agency for the return of the deducted amount. The company may also find itself in violation of payroll law and face fines that could range in the thousands of dollars....answers 4:It is not legal unless you authorized this practice when the treatment was provided. Contact the Fair Labor and Housing Dept. in your area.
