Why don't I get sound when using an optical cable with my receiver? Everything is hooked up correctly.?

Mahalia Brindle: Either the cable or the receiver input is bad. Optical cables are more fragile than regular audio cables. Does your receiver have another optical input? If not, can you try one of your friends' receivers? That way you can figure out if it's the cable or the receiver input. If it's still in warranty, you could even get it fixed for free...
