Booker Moros: Vegan Sprinkles
Pei Heatherly: I've looked into this myself - some brands are vegan, some aren't. Main ingredients to look out for in sprinkles include gelatine (rendered from bones and tendons etc, may be listed as additive 441), red colouring cochineal 120 (from squashed beetles), and glazing agents 904 (shellac, from squashed bugs) or 901 (beeswax). Some sprinkles use these ingredients and some don't, but don't know specific brands sorry. If the supermarket doesn't have enough of a selection, try a kitchen specialty shop which often have a better range of cake decorating stuff.p.s. I like the other answerer's idea to use citrus rind for a healthier option. Other options to consider include flakes of chocolate, sifted cocoa, coconut, nuts, marzipan (check no egg), fresh berries, glace cherries, dried fruit maybe chopped small, or larger vegan sweets (not all as healthy though! :-) )....Show more
Samara Siewers: This Site Might Help You.RE:D! oes anyone know if sprinkles vegan?I am wanting to decorate some vegan cupcakes with sprinkles. Are sprinkles vegan? Does anyone know if some brands in regular grocery stores are vegan? Maybe "accidentally" vegan? Thanks!...Show more
Adan Stribble: Sprinkles are bad for anyone due to all of the food dyes in them. Try some dried chopped up lemon, lime or orange rind bits they are wonderful and colorful on white cupcakes.
